Get excited! It's nearly time for a long weekend and the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.

We take a look at the events taking place across the Church & Hawes Network to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee.

On 6th February this year Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

There will be many events and activities celebrating the Jubilee across the UK Commonwealth and beyond in the months leading up to the special extended bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June 2022. We have taken the time to explore What's On across the Church & Hawes Network.

Jubilee Beacons

There is a long history in the UK of celebrating Royal events with the lighting of beacons. In 1897 they were lit to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, and in 1977, 2002 and 2012, communities around the nation lit beacons to commemorate the Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

A beacon can be anything from a large bonfire to a gas flame in a special holder - what's important is that communities come together to celebrate. On Thursday 2 June, at 9.09pm, it is expected that more than 1,500 beacons will be lit, not only in the UK, but in the Channel Islands and around the Commonwealth, to mark the start of the Platinum Jubilee Festivities. In many places the lighting will be accompanied by the sound of the bagpipes, playing a new tune, Diu Regnare, written especially for the occasion.

Beacon's in our area will be amoung those being lit in the UK with Burnham, Heybridge, Maldon, Mundon and Tollesbury all taking part. CLICK HERE for further details.
