Staying in is the new going out: How to party the weekend away during the coronavirus lockdown.
Tired of negativity? Unfollow the moaners, mute those spreading facebook doom and gloom.
Partying in isolation could be just as fun from online the new age of the online quiz, to the facetime pub session, Netflix and chill could even be taking a whole different meaning. Life after lockdown could even look a little different after we adopt some of these and bring them into our "normal lives".
We have looked at ways that could bring back that "Friday feeling" and want to make your lockdown calender busier than your normal one. Here are our top tips:
Special Ocasions:
In recent weeks I have been warmed by tales of ways people have adapted to make life in isolation easier to bear. I read an article stating that Caroline, from London, had more guests at her online Birthday Pub Quiz than she had been expecting to attend the scheduled event at a venue. She even offered to post the winners a prize of a roll of toilet paper!
On Mother's Day, as we were not able to attend an Afternoon Tea as planned so the wife decided to create a home made one and deliver it to the Mother in law so we could enjoy it together online (you can use applications such as
zoom,
skype or
House Party)!
Games Night:
Once you introduce zoom, skype and House Party the Games Night possibilities go to another level.
It has been quoted on Twitter that; “Houseparty is the best thing to happen to this #QuarantineLife,” in reference to the viral social network that’s suddenly all over your Instagram Stories. The spontaneous social video app has been around since 2016 but it’s become an overnight sensation amid the lockdown: global downloads rocketed by more than 500 per cent in the first two weeks of March alone. For the uninitiated, the app taps into your contact book and allows you to immediately start video calls with friends online. As many as eight people can enter a chat at one time and when you leave the “door” to the party unlocked, friends of friends can come in and join the conversation. Before you know it you’ll be face-to-face with your housemate’s boss. Mercifully, there are handy ice-breakers: parties can play rounds of trivia or Pictionary using the in-app games, and users can share their phone or desktop screens with the room so your best friend’s brother can help you with your Hinge profile.
Social Isolation Gamers are also coming up with virtual games: Zoom hide-and-seek (“one person blanks their video; who’s missing?”); Zoom roulette (“Type in any nine-digit meeting code. See how long you can last in that meeting before getting asked to leave”); and PowerPoint karaoke for the office social (“everyone sends in four made-up slides, we hand them out randomly, then everyone has to present four slides back to us and we have to guess who wrote it”).
Sychronised Streaming:
Netflix and Chill is so BC (Before Coronavirus),
Netflix Party is a new free Chrome extension that synchronises your virtual movie night for you and lets you chat about it in real-time like you’re sitting on the sofa together. If your favourite show is not on Netflix and you'd like to watch Amazon Prime or YouTube together you can use other sites such as
TwoSeven.
Summer is coming
And we are expecting a
heatwave, one thing we brits know how to do in style is BBQ! We were advised stay at home so whether you in it to create the
best BBQ dish or drink lots of Lager or Cider in the sun this weekend could be your opportunity to get the sunshine season underway.
My personal favourite.........
The Virtual Pub
One way to up your zooming game is with pub sessions they have become the new going out (Tesco has reported a 75 per cent increase in booze sales) and some say it’s better. “Drinks are cheaper, toilets are cleaner,” My personal favourte feature is that you can choose your zoom virtual background and your mates can see you in your actual local.
Check me out in the Prince of Wales, Great Totham..... I wish
