What’s on guide: September

With life getting busier every week and new bars, restaurants and events opening every month, staying on top can be tricky. So here’s a round up of this month’s hottest happenings in and around the local area…­­­­­
 
What? Looking out for Grave Stories
Where? Church Green, Danbury, Chelmsford
When? Sunday 15th and Sunday 22nd September
This 90 minute tour will explore in and around Danbury parish churchyard and inside the Grade 1 listed, 12th century St-John-the-Baptist church. We start with a brief walk along Church Path to a viewpoint which on a good day reveals the Kentish hills. It shows why this place drew the early settlers. We walk around the churchyard and hear some grave stories as well as anecdotes of the bombing in 1941. Then it will be inside for a look inside the historic church with features that provide more stories of its ancient pews, wooden knights and mysterious tomb. Sit down and hear some more tales unexpected.
 
What? Apple And Bees Day
Where? Easton Lodge, Little Easton, Dunmow
When? Sunday 22nd September 2019
The annual celebration of apples and orchard produce, when they invite visitors to press apple juice and taste it with a wide selection of apple and honey cakes and other produce. The East of England Apples and Orchard Project will be on hand to show heritage varieties of fruit and will help visitors identify the variety of their own apples. The beekeepers will also join to show how their bees live and make honey in their hive.
 
What? Open Air Cinema - Last Night of the Proms
Where? RHS Garden Hyde Hall Creephedge Lane, Rettendon
When? Saturday 14th September 2019
Essex Outdoor Cinema brings you Last Night of the Proms. This is a very special event broadcast live from the Royal Albert Hall. Join in for this amazing party under the stars and don’t forget your picnic and a blanket. Doors open at 6pm and live broadcast from the Royal Albert Hall will start at 7pm.
 
What? Cressing Autumn Food & Craft Fair
Where? Cressing Temple Barns, Essex
When? Saturday 28th - 29th September 2019
Set in the grounds of lovely Cressing Temple Barns between Witham and Chelmsford in Essex, you can enjoy a huge range of stalls set within the historic barns themselves as well as within marquees and outside stands. You can enjoy browsing, sampling and buying as well as enjoying a superb set of cookery as well as other demonstrations, throughout the weekend. With a mixture of celebrity chefs and others making this event one to enjoy in this picturesque setting.
 
What? Family Fun Festival
Where? Priory park, Southend, Essex
When? Sunday 15th September 2019
FREE Family fun day with free entertainment, stalls and activities at pocket money prices. Shop within the Craft and farmers market. Including: Little Riders - unicorns and zebras, go karts, craft and ceramic painting - bumble bee events, face painting, coconut shy, hook the duck, monkey bus - soft play, swing boats, teacup rides, test your strength, Shetland ponies, reptiles, classic cars and bikes, marshal arts demonstrations, and create 98 -craft for all ages!
 
What? It’s a Blue World, A Jazz Concert on the History of the Hammond Organ
Where? St Nicolas’ Church, Chipping Hill, Witham
When? Sunday 15th September 2019
A concert by jazz musician Alex Boyle on the Hammond organ, following the history of the instrument from its invention in 1935. Come along and enjoy some wonderful music and culture surrounded by your local community.
 
What? The National Country Show Live 2019
Where? Hylands Park, Greenbury Way, Chelmsford
When? Saturday 21st September 2019 and Sun 22 Sep 2019
This two-day show is Chelmsford’s largest family event complete with country shopping, food, entertainment as well as all of your traditional country show finds. Watch thrilling displays in the Grand Arena, meet amazing animals and have-a-go at activities. Bring the whole family along and let the kids loose in the Kids Fun Zone, take a seat in the Village Green, take a look around our Country Shopping Village and enjoy some amazing Street Food in the Festival of Food & Drink LIVE.
 
What? Badger Boogie
Where? Witham Public Hall, Collingwood Road, Witham
When? Saturday 14th September 2019
Come down and enjoy a night of dancing at Badger boogie! There will be a 1 hour jive lesson at 7pm, then plenty of dancing including: Swing, Jive, Lindy, Balboa, Rock 'n' Roll, and Stroll. DJ Texas Tommy & Vintage Rob will provide some fantastic tunes, and there’s tea and coffee available (or bring your own if you fancy something else!)
